Michele Susan Balz comes to us with a broad range and depth of experience. She graduated with an Honours B.F.A. from Queen’s University, an Honours M.F.A. from Concordia University, an LL.B from the Université de Montréal in civil law, and an LL.B cum laude from the University of Ottawa in common law. She is a member in good standing of both the Barreau du Québec and the Law Society of Upper Canada. She is able to provide legal services in both English and French.
After finishing law school at the Université de Montréal, Susan worked in information technologies and corporate law, in Europe and in New York. She was a Director at Deloitte & Touche working both the Brussels and New York desk of their Information Economies Department, directing a team of 30 lawyers and representing clients such as international banks and the Department of Justice of the European Union. She is the co-author of two books and numerous articles.
Susan has developed a litigation practice that focuses on assisting individuals instead of corporate clients. Her practice focuses on personal injury litigation and family law on helping injured people and those going through divorce. She brings her background in corporate law to bear when dealing with institutional clients such as insurance companies, and she is also sensitive to the vulnerability of her clients at these difficult times in their lives. She is a strong advocate and an experienced trial lawyer, willing to go the distance for her clients.
